Like all Israeli youth, Atalya is obligated to become a soldier.

Unlike most, she questions the practices of her country’s military, and becomes determined to challenge this rite of passage. Despite her family’s political disagreements and personal concerns, she refuses military duty and is imprisoned for her dissent.

Her courage moves those around her to reconsider their own moral positions and personal power.

OBJECTOR follows Atalya to prison and beyond, offering a unique window into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict from the perspective of a young woman who seeks truth and takes a stand for justice.

"Atalya is a remarkable young woman, exhibiting a rare courage. Watching her family transform as a result of the catalyst of her conviction was utterly inspiring."

“Objector is a wonderful demonstration of the power of young women to conscientize their communities and bring about change. The openness of the filmmaking approach, as well as Atalya's in questioning the values of her community, are very disarming. It is wonderful for the viewer to observe the progressive galvanizing of her sense of injustice and her desire to resist.”

SIGN THE OBJECTOR SOLIDARITY LETTER

Join Michael Chabon, Ayelet Waldman, Jacqueline Woodson, Mario Vargas Llosa and many more in signing this letter in solidarity with Israeli conscientious objectors who refuse to participate in the oppression of Palestinians.

As conscientious objectors continue to be imprisoned, the international community condemns militarism and calls on the Israeli government to end this unjust practice.

We must let these young leaders know that they are not alone as they courageously challenge the status quo – demanding a world in which Palestinians and all people are free!
